Classical Music

Lois and I have always been great fans of classical music and this past week was especially interesting. There is an Opera series every Wednesday at the Cinemark-Paradise theatre on Sheridan and I75. Wednesday the opera was Turendot one of the really great operas, this Wednesday they will play Carmen. These operas were screened at the Metropolitan Opera Company in New York City. Carmen is one of the most loved of all operas, if you go to google you can listen to excerpts from the Operas.

On Thursday we attended a concert at the Susan B Katz auditorium behind the library on Sheridan Ave. The Mont Blanc Chamber Orchestra with some musicians from the The Symphony of the Americas (the orchestra that gives concerts in Weston.) It is a good orchestra made up of professional musicians as well as students. They played some 18th century chamber music, with two very talented soloists a violinist and flutist. They will be doing this concert again at Temple Dor Dorim tonight.

Some thoughts on Classical Music, while popular music changes every generation
( I listened and danced to the Big Bands) Classical Music with many additions is the same as people listened to 300 years ago, it is ageless and beautiful. If a person returned here from the 18th century he would not recognize a thing, everything is entirely different, but if he went into a concert hall he would know the music and the instruments.

We should not deny our children the opportunity to listen and appreciate Classical Music it will last them all their lives.
