    Default Posting News Articles

I read an article yesterday that said a lawyer was buying the copyrights for Internet news articles from several news sources, including newspapers. His sole purpose is to make money threatening lawsuits and settling out of court. (IMO Extortion) He has settled several cases so far and has made thousands of dollars by searching websites and blogs, which is easy to do on Google.

Should we continue to post articles? Or does anyone know if just posting a link is a copyright infringement?

I am not a copyright lawyer, but I believe posting a link it OK.
There's someone in my head, but it's not me.

Thanks for posting this Ditto. I think that from now on, I will take your advice.... link only, not text. I will remove text from posts and leave the link.

I thought everything on the internet was ok, including posting as it is not really regulated??

I guess copyright is copyright regardless where it is. The guy probably got the idea from AP, who has been threatening websites for awhile for posting their articles. I guess they want to make sure we go to their sites and see their ads.

I can see this will be a problem. Many newspapers retire their articles online after a few weeks, or change the links and move them to an archive section, which often you may need to pay for if you want to see the older article. If you don't read this site regularly and read a thread outside the right timeframe, you might not be able to read the article the link refers to at all.

But I understand why site owners would be worried. These copyright trolls suck.
