That comes from experience of having to pay for the repairs twice!!!!! If I was handier, I could do it myself.

Speaking of which... anyone want to recommend a plumber? The toilet in the master bath was running all the time. I reached in the tank and adjusted the thumb screw. Worked for about 1 flush. Then it started running all the time again. Wanting to save money, I went to Home Depot to to get the parts to do it myself. I get home and there is water all over the bathroom. It is now leaking at the shut off valve. I turned it off with a pair of pliers and it still drips. I don't want to attempt that repair as I am sure I need to shut the water main off in order to replace it. So much for saving mone, now I need a plumber.

Try to turn the screw on the handle of the shut-off valve. Turn it clockwise and it might stop the leak. Chances are the valve is OK and the pipe/hose from the valve to the tank has split. If that stops the leak and you still want to do it yourself, go to HD or Lowes and buy a flexible hose for the toilet, turn the valve off and replace the parts.

Years ago, I had a plumber switch out all of the shut-off valves on our toilets to one turn. I did the same for the water shut off outside the house. The ones that you have to turn and turn to close, have a tendency to break. How fun would that be to run outside to do an emergency shut off to only have it break. Now outside it is just a lever. The only down side to this is once it got accidentally pushed off and we had no water in the house... took me a bit to figure that one out. LOL

Thanks. I just tried that and it would not budge. I was afraid to try too hard or I might end up in deep, let's just say, "water". Took some channel lock pliers and tried turning it a bit tighter and I manged to speed the drip up. Backed it off a little and it slowed.

That is where I was before this all started, I got the thing to replace the fill tube that limits the water at HD. Went to change it and it comes out of the hole too much and the metal pipe was in the way. I was headed out to HD again to get the flexible tube when my wife yelled to me water was all over the bathroom. Going to need to address it soon, my wife is tired of using the kids' (hall) bathroom.
